Every girl needs a little Bling in her life, right?
Well how about a little bling for a box that holds all of those pretty things too...
And to think...this blinging jewelry box started out pretty plain, I picked this one up at my favorite local vintage wares shop,
Junk 'N' The Trunk.
Handmade, heavy! and full of possibilities..... I couldn't wait to get my hands on it!
I started by painting out the areas on the box that I would distress later. I used "burnt umber" acrylic craft paint...
You should have seen the looks I was getting around the house when I started painting it like this....
"Come on people!! I have a plan!!"
I kept wanting to say, but I kept my mouth shut and went right on working.
Do you know what my favorite trick is for distressing small pieces??
Vaseline.
Weird, right? But it works like a charm and I don't ever use any sand paper at all. none. not one little bit.
To do this technique you just need to put a small amount of Vaseline over the painted areas where the distressed look would happen naturally.... just make sure you only put the Vaseline where you want the dark paint to show through in the finished piece.
I lugged this bad boy outside for the next step in the process....
SPRAY PAINT!
I used satin finish, "Pistachio" Krylon.
Once the spray paint was dry
{wait for it....this is my favorite part}
I used a paper towel to wipe away the paint where I put the Vaseline
That's it!
{I told you there would be no sanding!}
{sorry for the terrible inside at night picture, but you get the idea}
Now, time for some BLING!
After removing the backs of the earrings and pins with pliers, I got out my trusty hot glue gun and got to work...
And what do I put in my Blinged out jewelry box....
Oh, you know....just a few pretties....
What's that? Oh, you like that pretty "Butterfly Time" Pocket watch necklace??
Well, I might just have a few extra of those laying around over
{shameless plug..hehehe}
Oh...I'm a happy girl :)
Even the flowers perked up when they saw all that bling!!
Thank you so much for stopping by to take a look!
